Prestigious guests included the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, the Right Honourable Janet Anderson MP and Graham Burgess Chief Executive of BWDBC. Proud family members, education and industry representatives were all in attendance to support the apprentices. Guest speaker for the evening was Cllr Tony Melia who provided an interesting insight into his experiences as an apprentice.
Awards were presented by André Oojier, much to the delight of the apprentices. Congratulations go to Matthew Cooke, winner of the Apprentice of the Year 2008, with Daniel Hutchinson in 2nd place and Joshua Finley in 3rd place. All students were recognised for their achievements, each receiving an award, certificate and welding helmet.
“The event was hosted to celebrate the success of our Training Academy Apprentices who have spent the past year developing their welding and engineering skills,” explains Steve Hartley, Managing Director of WEC Group, Darwen. “Congratulations go out to all the students who have successfully completed their first year and we look forward to receiving our new apprentices in September.”
