Company Profile
Three giant wind turbines have been installed at a UK chip factory to help cut its carbon footprint, McCain Foods has announced.
The 410ft structures, which will fully up and running in January, will provide up to 60 per cent of the annual electricity needs of the site in Cambridgeshire, UK.
The £10 million investment will cut 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from the plant, McCain said.
The turbines are part of a sustainability drive by McCain, which also includes solar panels to refrigerate lorries and attempts to reduce food miles as well as plans for a heat and power facility powered by biogas generated on-site at Whittlesey.
The company said the turbines will be able to power the entire plant at times. Unused electricity when the factory is not operating will feed back into the National Grid
