From an initial enquiry utilising Fast CAD design, Edge Cam and Cad Cam packages, our technical engineers can advise and assist with all aspects of your company requirements. Our experience and quality system in design ranges from the simplest component through to complex high speed packaging machinery.
We also support out customers with the reverse engineering of parts from samples, to reduce OEM spares costs.
Machining and CNC Machining
Equipped with modern vertical CNC machining centres, CNC machining lathes and conventional machine tools, the Crabb Engineering Company Machine Shop is supported via network and data tracking systems.
Our computer packages and data base allow us not only to download information directly from CAD design files, but also to track material receipts, purchase orders and job progress. This feature, combined with our policy of employing fully time served tradespersons ensures that Crabb Engineering Company offers a cost effective quality system to our customers.
This includes the manufacture of components from small to large, using many different materials, all to customers quality system and time requirements and supported with certificates of conformity when necessary.

Plant and Equipment
CNC TURNING CENTRES:
9 Machines including Akebono, Daewoo, XYZ, Seiki, Hitachi and Romi allowing up to 230mm chucking, 65mm bar capacity and 700mm between centres. Bar feeders are in operation with a number of machines having live tooling and full C-Axis. Machines are linked to our off-line programming centres.
CNC VERTICAL MACHINING CENTRES:
9 Machines including Mikron, Cincinnati, Deckel and XYZ Prototrack, with capacity up to 1500mm and full 4th axis. Machines are linked to our off-line programming centres which utilise most CAD formats including surfaces, solid models and full 3D.
CNC WIRE EROSION:
1 Fine Sodick A280, maximum size of work (LxWxH) mm 200 x 300 x 175.
CONVENTIONAL TURNING:
5 Machines including Harrison, Colchester and Hardinge with capacity up to 2000mm between centres and 700mm swing. All centre lathes are fitted with Digital Readouts.
Conventional MILLING:
5 Machines including Bridgeport and Ajax with table size up to 1400mm x 250mm. All machines are fitted with digital readouts.
GRINDING:
Jones & Shipman 540 surface grinder 500mm x 150mm chuck.
INSPECTION:
Facilities include OTI precision digital spherometer and Mitutoyo CMM, with full print-out and report facilities.
