General Sheet Metal Under 6mm

General sheet metal is ways form and cut sheet metal that is thinner than 6 mm.

Sheet metal work is the most common type of fabrication. It usually includes cutting, press brake work and punching. In this category the sheet metal is less than 6 mm thick. Normally, sheet metal is up to 3 mm thick, but most sheet metal machine tools can work materials up to 6 mm.

Sheet metal is a part of many products and components. It is one of the most common processes for purchasers to source. Sometimes in small quantities, but the process can easily be automated and therefore handle large jobs.

If the sheet metal is thicker than 6 mm, this process is generally called fabrication or heavy fabrication. However, if the piece is extremely thin it is referred to as foil. When the sheet metal is that thin, normal production techniques would not be able to work it properly.
