Machining, Conventional

Conventional machining (manual machining, swe: manuell bearbetning) is a combination manufacturing processes done manually.

Conventional includes turning and milling, which is carried out on machine tools without numerical control. It is the most old-fashioned type of shaping metal workpieces. Even though turning and milling are the main processes, projects normally also include drilling, thread cutting or finishing. Conventional machining is common when manufacturing protypes, one-offs or small volumes of components.

It requires a high level of craftmanship, and is done by skilled operators in small workshops.
