Saw Cutting
Saw cutting is a method of cutting pieces of metal into given lengths or sizes.
Saw cutting is usually performed by the raw material supplier, to make it suitable for its customers' production. The machine tool that makes the cutting is called a sawing machine or cutoff saw. The saw-blade rotates, and when it comes in contact with the workpiece it generates so much friction that the component melts. This is refered to as friction-sawing.
True cutting (cold cutting) is usually performed in steel-rolling mills, which cut big volumes. In steel-rolling mills, metal bars are placed in big vises and cut with toothed saw-blades.
Another method of saw cutting is to use grinding machines. When tubes or hardened steel are cut, this is normally used.
Saw cutting capabilities are available at every workshop, but some specializes in saw cutting.
