BT Install Wind Turbines On The Roof Of Its South London Building

16 April 2008 16:11 Company Profile

An installation of two 6kW micro wind turbines and a 15kW solar panel array have been installed by BT on the roof of its Colombo House building in Southwark, south east London.

The wind turbines are mounted on nine metre masts, and are clearly visible from the street and surrounding buildings. The scheme forms part of BT’s wider commitment to reduce the amount of CO2 produced by its UK operations by 80 per cent by 2016.

The project was delivered by BT’s Energy & Carbon Team, with the assistance of the specialist consultants hurleypalmerflatt and other partners including Telereal, Monteray and Reach.

The whole renewable system - from commencement to installation - took around three months. This was achieved by running the planning and logistical elements in parallel with the purchase of the turbines and solar panels.

The Colombo House renewable energy installation follows BT’s announcement in October 2007 that it is to build a series of wind farms to meet 25 per cent of its current UK electricity needs by 2016. The £250m project will see wind turbines installed on or adjacent to BT-owned land assets.
