First Fully Electric Car Soon To Be Released In The UK

25 March 2008 10:26 Company Profile

The first fully electric powered car is due to be released for sale in the UK later this year, providing a new green alternative for motorists.

The new TH!NK city electric vehicle (EV) was unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show this month by Norwegian electric vehicle pioneers Think.

The two-seater car is a fully environmental vehicle; it is emission free and is 95 per cent recyclable. Its energy efficiency is three times that of a traditional combustion engine car. It has a top speed of 65 miles per hour and can go from 0 to 50 in 16 seconds.

The battery can be charged overnight using a domestic socket and it takes 10 hours to reach full charge. A fully charged battery allows the car to travel 124 miles in city driving. Over 10,000 miles use, the total cost of electricity used to power a TH!NK city would be approximately £125.

“Unlike the lower-range, electric quadricycles that have had limited success in the UK, TH!NK city is a real car which provides a realistic option for those motorists who want to drive a true zero emissions car,” said Think UK managing director Richard Blundell.

Production of the car began last autumn, and the first batch will be delivered to Norwegian customers this spring. The expected retail price is £14,000
