Green Light for Scottish Power Windfarm at Harestanes

11 September 2007 16:10 Company Profile

ScottishPower was today granted final planning consent by the Scottish government for Harestanes windfarm, a project providing up to 213MW capacity in Dumfries and Galloway.

According to ScottishPower, the £200m, 71 turbine project will provide enough energy for approximately 120,000 homes.

‘Construction is scheduled to start in spring 2008, with the first turbine scheduled to arrive in early 2010,’ said ScottishPower Renewables Managing Director, Keith Anderson.

‘Harestanes is our third large windfarm approval, following our successes at Whitelee and Black Law, and confirms the major role that such projects have to play in delivering targets for and making a real difference to climate change,’ added Anderson. ‘This windfarm alone will save carbon dioxide emissions of almost 500,000 tonnes each year.’

The consent follows a public inquiry into the project following an objection by Dumfries and Galloway Council in June 2005.
