UK manufacturing sees modest growth while input prices drop

According to a survey of buyers, UK manufacturing has seen a modest improvement for the start of 2016. The PMI index climbed to 52.9 in January, the highest level in three months.

As production increased, manufacturers’ purchasing costs continued to fall thanks to ongoing weaknesses in global commodity prices. The report noted that the increase in production was partly achieved through reducing backlogs of work as purchasers reduce stock levels and move towards leaner purchasing practices.
