MTC forges a path for post-Brexit Britain

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), based in the Midlands, has signed a new five-year agreement with Upper Austria Research (UAR). The two are expected to exchange specialist knowledge and information, as well as collaborate on joint research projects.

MTC is one of the seven centres in the government-backed High Value Manufacturing Catapult network. Technology director, Prof. Ken Young, commented: “The MTC has always worked closely with Europe on the future technologies for manufacturing and we intend to continue to do that post-Brexit. This agreement is an important milestone for the MTC as it shows that some key partners in Europe share out desire to keep collaborating.”

British manufacturing continues climb up global rankings

According to new figures released by EEF, British manufacturing has again risen in the global rankings as the country continues to enjoy the industry’s strong performance.

The new data shows that the UK is now the ninth largest industrial nation with an annual output worth around $247 billion, accounting for 10% of Gross Value Added for the economy. The positive figures are reflected across a range of areas, including employment, where UK manufacturers sit second in terms of job creation since 2010, beaten only by the United States.

Bloodhound suppliers show strength of UK engineering

Bloodhound, the 1000mph record attempt, has recently attracted a new sponsor in privately-owned Geely, which is based in China. The latest investment has reignited interest and is again highlighting the accomplishments of British ingenuity.

The high level of precision required for the manufacturing of the vehicle is normally only reserved for jet fighters, but the project is making an exception with everything assembled to within accuracy of the width of a human hair. Bloodhound’s first attempt for 800mph will take place in October 2017, with the second run for 1000mph due to take place the following year.
