Bloodhound Supersonic Car successfully completes first public runs
Bloodhound SSC, the supersonic British car designed to go at 1,000mph, has moved a step closer to its ultimate goal following the completion of a series of 200mph test runs at Cornwall’s Newquay airport. In front of a crowd of an estimated 4,000 spectators, the vehicle, driven by RAF pilot Andy Green, completed two high speed trips up the airport’s 1.7 mile (2.7km) long runway, pushing the vehicle’s jet engine to full afterburner and accelerating to 200mph in around nine seconds. Read more...
 

Boeing wins approval for £88m hangar at Gatwick
Airplane manufacturer Boeing has received planning permission for new hangar at Gatwick airport. The £88m hangar, which creates around 100 direct jobs and an additional 100 indirect jobs in the area, was subject to local authority planning permission. It will support Boeing’s European GoldCare customers, which is a flexible set of fleet engineering, materials and maintenance services tailored for 60 airline customers and managed by Boeing. £30m new home for Southern Manufacturing
The Southern Manufacturing and Electronics Show marks its 20th anniversary in 2018 with a move to a new permanent venue at Farnborough. The UK’s longest-running annual industrial technology show will be the first major exhibition to be held at the brand new £30m conference and exhibition centre at Farnborough International in Hampshire, home of the iconic airshow. Airbus A330-900neo takes maiden flight
Airbus's latest passenger jet has successfully taken its first test flight, as the manufacturer seeks to improve aircraft fuel efficiency. On Thursday morning the A330-900neo aircraft took to the skies over Toulouse, France in the first ever test of this new aircraft. Taking off at 9:57 am, the aircraft flew for 4 hours and 13 minutes over France before returning to land in Toulouse. Read more...
 

UK government awards £51m to driverless car testing infrastructure projects
Four UK projects have been awarded a total of £51m of government funding to develop testing infrastructure for autonomous cars. The four projects, which are led by HORIBA MIRA; Millbrook Proving Ground; TRL and the Warwick Manufacturing Group are the first to be funded from the government’s £100m Connected and Autonomous Vehicles testing infrastructure programme which was announced in November 2016.  The government funding will be matched by investment from industry.
