Process: General Fabrication (over 1 tonne)

Overview

General fabrication refers to common types of processes when working in plate.
General fabrication usually includes all common ways to work sheet metal; normally cutting, press brake work , treatment and assembling. In this category, the sheet metal's thickness ranges from 6 to 15 mm. Other thicknesses can be found in the general sheet metal or heavy fabrication categories. The material used in general fabrication is a thicker piece of sheet metal. Still, this means its length and width is considerably larger than its width.

IMMEDIATE CAPACITY SOUGHT FOR URGENT PROJECT! This buyer, who has a massive £350,000 annual spend on subcontract fabrication work, seeks a supplier with immediate capacity who can undertake an urgent project on their behalf. A prompt response is vital, as due to its urgency, this project will be awarded as soon as the right supplier is found. The chosen supplier will be required to undertake the manufacture of the attached box section, for use within the construction industry. Fabrication-General Fabrication (over 1 tonne)

This growing manufacturer of steam locomotives are currently over-capacity and are looking for a new supplier to assist with the manufacture of 2 off full-size water tanks. The tank capacities are 4600 gallons of water and 9 tonnes of coal and are to be formed of mild steel sheet metal in 6mm and 10mm thicknesses (or imperial measurement equivalents). The client has provided two options, and has no particular preference when choosing a supplier: 1) provide all the profiled parts unassembled for the client to construct the tanks themselves, or 2) profile all the parts and then assemble before delivery. The sketch drawings are for the 4600 gallon tank parts which is a slight modification to the original 4000 gallon tank design. The assembly drawing is for the original 4000 gallon capacity tank. The increase of 600 gallons capacity is provided by the provision of two additional sumps to the underside of the tank. No leak testing is required if assembly is completed, because additional parts will be added to the tanks by the client before leak tests are performed at a later stage. Due to the nature of these tanks, quality is paramount regardless of which of the two options is undertaken. There is an immediate order to place with other work available once a relationship is established.
