Process: Milling, Low Volume

Overview

Milling machines can be conventional (manual) or computer numerically controlled (CNC). Milling involves the removal of material using a rotating mill tool. Types of milling machines range from vertical milling centres (VMC) to horizontal mills. Modern milling machines can have a variety of live tooling capabilities and multiple axis capable of producing simple and complex machined parts. We classify Low volume as batches of one off to 50 off.

A manufacturer of props for the film industry that spends over £20,000 a year on subcontract machining, seeks immediate production of a sword billet. A stainless steel cradle side is required for immediate manufacture, on behalf of a company that spends a massive £1million a year on subcontract machining services. This is a new part that cannot be made by the client in-house and is required for end use within the industrial machinery sector. This project will have a great alignment with those that are looking to fill immediate capacity; although this is a one-off requirement, there will be similar work available for the selected supplier, providing an opportunity to add a big-spending name to your long-term customer portfolio.

Machining-Milling, Low Volume

The attached location nest assembly is required as soon as possible, by a company that outsources £10,000 worth of machining work every year. They are looking to employ the services of a Qimtek member that can offer delivery within three weeks of order placement, to be supplied either as a complete unit or as a set of piece parts to be assembled in-house. Interested suppliers are asked to make contact with the buyer at their earliest convenience in order to be considered for the project, quoting their best price and lead time.

The attached plate is required for end use within the electronics industry. The company behind this project spends over £100,000 annually in the subcontract machining market and would like to hear from suppliers that are able to machine this part in accordance with the specified time frame, with three batches of 30 off required over an eight month period. This may make it an excellent fit for those who are looking to expand their ongoing workload.

These are legacy parts, which will be used within the client's in-house machinery.

If successful, the buyer will place repeat orders of this part moving forward and so this is also an opportunity to fill ongoing capacity.

Machining-Milling, Low Volume

Suppliers that have immediate capacity are asked to quote on the machining of free-issue nylon. Unfortunately, the company's existing supplier has gone into administration and as such, the buyer - who works within the marine industry - requires the attached part as soon possible. There is scope for the successful supplier to take over the ongoing production of this part.
