Wire forming is a method to form metal wire to a product or component.
Wire forming is primarily performed to bend and cut wire into specific shapes. Often welding and combinations of wire and sheet metal are also included, which is specially common in computer and electronics chassis that require air cooling. Since it is possible to bend wire in three dimensions it is also possible to manufacture light-weight and cost-efficient components and at the same time do designs which would not be possible in sheet metal.
Wire forming is carried out in special machine tools which often can make an entire component in one step. Subsequently, wire forming is usually only done in specialized workshops.
