AFS ROTEL have specialised in laser scanning since 2003. As early adopters of the technology, we have a wealth of experience applying laser scanning to help solve our clients problems.
Laser scanning produces a point cloud consisting of millions of xyz positions in free space showing the surface of the scanned part. The point cloud is refined into an .stl file to allow use of the data in downstream processes.
The equipment is portable and has been successfully applied on projects throughout the world.
AFS ROTEL utilise a combination of laser scanning techniques, parametric solid modelling and precision manufacture. We produce full design and manufacturing data, component upgrades and modifications where appropriate to ensure high quality replacement parts. Key applications for the process include:

- Recapture of legacy or lost design data
AFS ROTEL utilise our highly accurate measurement arm with either our laser scanner or a more traditional touch probe to generate in depth inspection reports. The accurate and dense data from the laser scanner allows visually clear information on form deviation across the entirety of a component, to assist root cause analysis.Key applications for this process include:
- Geometric inspection of parts using full GD&T
- Analyse of process capability using Statistical Process Control
- Corrosion analysis
- Inspection of soft or easily deformable parts unsuitable for contact based measurement.
AFS ROTEL offer tooling design and manufacture services across all industries, including aerospace and automotive.
Our design engineers utilise powerful design software from Solidworks and CATIA (V5 & V6) in conjunction with the latest 3D printing technologies and large volume CNC machining. We are capable of producing small, intricate 3d printed design through to large volume CNC machined tooling up to 3 metres in length.
AFS ROTEL utilise a wide range of manufacturing techniques in house, developed over 40 years of operation. Our breadth of abilities allow us to manufacture soft tooling for foundry and thermoforming processes all the way through to our speciality which is hard metal machining.
We use an array of technologies to manufacture, from 7 axis CNC Robot machining cells programmed offline using state of the art CADCAM software, through stronger CNC metal cutting lathes and milling machines, to extremely rigid manual machine tools that excel even under the high cutting forces that can be generated in hard metal machining. Key applications include:
- Finish machined industrial spares
- Soft tooling
- Sub contract machining
