The U.S. Navy awarded Raytheon Company an $18.5 million contract modification to provide an infrared marker upgrade on Hornet and Super Hornet targeting pods, which will enhance F/A-18 ground operations support.
The upgrade will affect Lots 4 and 5 of the Advanced Targeting Forward- Looking Infrared program. The work will be performed by Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems in El Segundo, Calif., and McKinney, Texas.

The Missile Defense Agency has awarded Raytheon Company a $304 million contract to develop advanced tracking and discrimination capabilities for the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) forward based AN/TPY-2 radar.
Under the contract, Raytheon is responsible for the development and test of radar software, various engineering tasks, maintenance and support, infrastructure upgrades and deployment mission planning. Work will be performed at the company's Missile Defense Center, Woburn, Mass., and the Warfighter Protection Center, Huntsville, Ala.

The biggest surface preparation and finishing facility built in the UK for several years is now in operation at the Defence Aviation Repair Agency's new aircraft maintenance centre at St Athan, South Wales. The surface finishing facility, which cost £3.2 million, was designed and installed as a joint project by Sheffield-based Hodge Clemco Ltd and the US company Global Finishing Solutions, with Hodge Clemco providing project management.

On the eve of the unveiling of the world's newest commercial jetliner, the 787 Dreamliner, The Boeing Company and Air Berlin announced an order for 25 787-8 airplanes valued at $4 billion at list prices. The order is the single largest placed by any European carrier and brings the total number of 787s ordered worldwide to 677.

Aker Kvaerner has signed a contract with Subsea 7 Norway for the manufacturing and supply of steel tube umbilicals for Norsk Hydro's Vega and Troll O2 developments in the North Sea. The contract, worth NOK 434 million, is one of Aker Kvaerner's largest stand-alone umbilical contracts to date.
Aker Kvaerner Subsea will deliver approximately 60 kilometres of static and dynamic umbilicals to Subsea 7 for their developments at Norsk Hydro's Vega and Troll 02 fields. Umbilicals for the Troll O2 project represents NOK 33 million of the total contract value.
