The seven-year contract will be carried out by Nasmyth Bulwell team at its manufacturing facility in Pinxton, Nottinghamshire and Nasmyth Group’s manufacturing team in Asia.

Alpha Extends STOPA Automated Storage System From Trumpf

Following Alpha Manufacturing’s investment in a STOPA four-bay automated material handling and storage system from TRUMPF in 2016, the company has extended to a 10-bay system that now runs 62m down the centre of its factory near Stafford. The STOPA – which serves machines such as a TRUMPF TruLaser 3030 Fiber, TRUMPF TruMatic 6000 laser/punch combination, TRUMPF TruPunch 5000 and TRUMPF TruBend Cell 7000 – houses more than 600 tonnes of raw material and part-processed items in a total of 207 available pallet spaces.

Automechanika Birmingham postponed until June 2022

Messe Frankfurth has announced that the automotive aftermarket and supply chain event Automechanika Birmingham has been postponed to 7-9 June 2022.
The announcement comes following the postponement of Automechanika Frankfurt to September 2021, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The UK event decision has not been taken lightly say the organisers who have taken several months to discuss this with exhibitors and the NEC to deliver the best solution for the market.

Custom sheet metal and machining specialist KMF has kept up its investment in apprentices for the tenth year running
KMF Group invests in young people every year and despite COVID-19 has taken on a further five apprentices this year.
Over the past 10 years over 100 people have come through KMF’s programme including 12 adult apprentices. This year Shay Johnston, Aiden Sneyd, Oscar Evans, Kelly Palin, and Kyle Marshall have joined the award-winning precision engineering business.

Shielding cuts rework

MetLase has engineered and manufactured a customised gas shield that will cut welding rework at a major aerospace engine manufacturer.
The Sheffield-based company took just two months from the customer’s initial enquiry to design and manufacture the shield for controlling argon delivery within shielded welding. This prevents oxygen or water vapour affecting the quality of the weld.

Important Update - Change of Office Hours

We aim to return quotes in response to a laser cutting enquiries within an hour. To improve our response times for orders sent in the middle of the day, we are going to trial slightly different working patterns for our sales team.
From the week commencing Monday 19th October, for a period of two weeks, our team will be taking shorter lunch breaks and going home half an hour earlier. This will benefit the bulk of enquiries sent throughout the day, but will change our office hours slightly to 8am – 5.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8am – 4.30pm on Fridays.

Aerospace tooling orders

Tooling specialist Cube Precision Engineering has won major orders from prime and tier one aerospace companies.
Cube, which can handle single op prototype tooling to complex multi-stage tooling suites, has picked up more than £675,000 of order over the last two months despite the industry suffering from the effects of the pandemic.
The firm’s ability to deliver quality products on time was instrumental in securing the work and its engineers are now offering additional support in improving the process and manufacturing methodology.

£1m electrification project

Brandauer is pressing the button on a £1m project that will see it develop a new process to support the UK’s acceleration into electrification.
The Birmingham-based stamping specialist, which already produces components for use in more than half of the world’s cars, has secured over £300,000 of funding from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund run by UK Research and Innovation to help it set-up a high volume e-machine stack line to produce thin laminates required by the automotive and aerospace sector.

Tadweld has manufactured and donated aluminium staging to York Teaching Hospital that will be used in a Renal Clinic Outpatients Unit.
The donation comes shortly after the Tadcaster-based engineering firm announced a change in ownership with Richard Byfield, Iain Leedham, Kevin Wheelock and Paul Rose acquiring the company.
Under its new ownership, Tadweld is developing a comprehensive corporate social responsibility programme, with this announcement marking the first of many contributions to the local community.

Gordon Henderson, Local MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, visited us here at the CEL factory to see a demonstration of our impressive new robotic welding plant in action here in Sittingbourne, Kent. The recent new investment enables all of our welder fabricators to upskill. Some will learn to program and operate our MIG welding robot, and others are receiving training in more advanced welding techniques.

Luton-based Jaltek won the award in the regional heats of Make Uk’s national manufacturing awards programme.
The awards, which recognise excellence among manufacturing companies in seven categories, as well as five Apprentice categories, were held virtually at an online ceremony for the Midlands and East of England.
