Keighley Laboratories Limited (Stand L150) offers a range of AS9100 (Rev D) accredited Heat Treatment processes and the expertise to provide bespoke processing of components, whilst also providing technical support to offer solutions to eliminate cracking, distortion or low hardness issues.
The Heat Treatment department was recently contacted by a new customer which was seeking support to overcome cracking problems it was experiencing with some large gears.

Subcontracting market drops

The subcontract manufacturing market fell by 15% in the third quarter of 2019 and is down 47% year-on-year according to the latest Contract Manufacturing Index (CMI).
The overall number of projects is at quite a high level, but these are mainly from smaller companies and the large OEMs are not putting out any new work.
Machining has seen the biggest drop, down over 30% on the previous quarter, while fabrication is actually up by 5%.

A capital grant will support investment in new facilities at light-weighting specialist Sarginsons Industries to allow it to become a tier one supplier of wishbone and B-pillar components to a leading carmaker.
The company has been awarded a £50,000 capital grant by the by the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) that will be part of an overall investment of £260,000 on technology and equipment.

The Hamilton branch of metal bending specialist Barnshaws has delivered 11 rolled steel cylinders for two deaerator vessels destined for the Johan Sverdrup oilfield in the North Sea.
The customer - a leading supplier of vessels, tanks and piping to the offshore industry - has worked closely with Barnshaws in the past. When it came to deliver the 11 rolled cylinders for the deaeration vessels within a constrained timeframe, the supplier contacted Barnshaws.
