TEC Transnational has provided Eaton Aerospace with the training required to achieve the newly revised AS9100:2016 Rev D aerospace industry quality standard.
Eaton Aerospace is a world-leaders in the design, manufacture and integration advanced products and technologies for hydraulic systems, fuel and inerting systems, motion control, and engine solutions.
Although Eaton already complied with Rev C, the company needed to get up to speed on the revised AS9100:2016 Rev D quality standards which were published at the end of 2016 by The International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG).
Since 15 June 2017 aerospace companies all over the world have been audited against the new AS9100:2016 Rev D revisions. Simply put, all third-party certifications, re-certifications and surveillance audits now use the new AS9100:2016 Rev D series of standards, meaning the old AS9100 Rev C standards are no longer valid. Aerospace companies have until 14 September to be fully compliant with Rev D or else they will fail their audit.
Tony Stacey, Quality Director at Eaton Aerospace, said: “None of our plants are due for assessment to the new standard until early next year but we wanted to get our training in early with TEC to make sure all our ducks were in a row and staff were up-to-speed on the quality management systems required by the new revisions. I am confident that when we are externally assessed against these standards we’ll pass the audit with flying colours thanks to TEC’s training.”
Dr David Scrimshire, Managing Director at TEC Transnational, ran AS9100:2016 Rev D training courses for 40 Eaton employees across Eaton’s four UK plants. Employees at South Molton, Titchfield and Beadhampton received four-days of in-house training and those at Lakeside joined other aerospace suppliers at TEC’s one-day public course in Leamington Spa.
“Aerospace standards can be a dry old topic,” said Tony Stacey, “but in his training sessions, David brings the subject to life and puts the information across in a really practical and accessible way, using real life examples. Whenever I run a course I get David to do it. For me, he’s the go-to man of aerospace standards. No one comes close to him when it comes to approach, knowledge and experience.”
AS9100:2016 Rev D includes new clauses to address risk based thinking, product safety, ethical behaviour, counterfeit parts and human factors, backed up by mandatory calls for right-first-time and on-time-in-full performance.
The revised standard also simplifies the complex supply chains by standardising the management system for the delivery of services, parts and components – badly needed in an increasingly global marketplace.
Other benefits to support the aviation, space and defence Primes and Tier-1 suppliers include the mandatory inclusion of customer-specific QMS requirements, and when applicable, regulatory requirements. All of which are auditable by the Certification Bodies (CBs).
