R&D spend increases for third consecutive year

Figures released this week by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have shown that the UK’s R&D spend has grown for the third consecutive year, increasing by 5% during 2014.

EEF has welcomed the news, adding that aspects of the UK’s innovation system are amongst the best in Europe, but has warned that planned government cuts to innovation could halt this trend. Britain currently produces around 16% of top quality published research findings and is also ranked as home to three of the top 10 universities in the world.
