JLR drives Coventry to become “Smart Motor City”

Two major investments from Jaguar Land Rover are set to create world-class facilities to help revive the “Smart Motor City” heritage of Coventry.

The city has been tipped to be vital for the future success of the UK economy, largely driven by the significant growth of JLR. Since 2008, the car manufacturer has more than doubled its sales and employment and tripled its turnover. Currently, around 5,600 people are employed at its Whitely site, but with the expansion, this figure could be boosted by up to 2,000 more.

Shell unveils ultra-efficient city car

The Shell Concept Car – developed through an initiative known as Project M – is the result of a close collaboration between a number of leading engineers across the motor industry.

The project set out to demonstrate the energy efficiency savings that can be made through designing a car from scratch and by employing a “co-engineering” process where parts are all created together. Shell also believes that the car would deliver a 34% reduction in primary energy use over its lifecycle when compared with a typical city car.
