FLAG Telecom, a subsidiary of India s Reliance Communications, has awarded Fujitsu a turnkey contract for work on a submarine cable system linking countries around the world.
Under the contract, Fujitsu will construct a total of 10,000km of fibre optic cable systems that form part of the FLAG Next-Generation Network (NGN) between France and Egypt, and between India and Hong Kong.
Fujitsu has also received a letter of intent from FLAG for two additional system segments between Japan and the US West Coast, and between India and Kenya.
The additional contracts will almost double FLAG s existing network length, spanning 115,000km when they are all completed, and will make FLAG the world s largest IP network with submarine cable systems.
