Plastic coating is quite simply the process of coating a component in plastic. This can be performed for a number of reasons, such as insulating the component from external temperatures, improving corrosion resistance, or purely for cosmetic purposes.
Before a component is coating in plastic, it is essential that it is thoroughly cleaned to ensure good adhesion and removal of contaminants. The component is then heated and submerged in liquid plastic known as Plastisol, before being removed and cured to ensure that the plastic coating has sufficiently hardened. The amount of time that the component is submerged in the liquid plastic will vary depending on the desired thickness of the coating.
Plastic coating is a great way to enhance the appearance of a component and increase its resistance to corrosion; however, it is a specialist process and therefore, may not be the cheapest or most widely-available option.
