After a year of in-depth market research, we are excited to announce the launch of our enhanced members area, designed to make the sourcing process clearer and more efficient for both manufacturing suppliers and buyers for custom made parts. This update is a significant step forward in ensuring that projects are matched with the right suppliers while providing buyers with a seamless way to communicate their needs effectively.
Why We Made These Changes
In our research, we identified key challenges faced by both suppliers and buyers:
- Diverse Buyer Needs:
Buyers approach us for different reasons, ranging from cost comparisons to solving specific problems, or seeking long-term supply chain partners. However, these varying needs were not always immediately clear from the project descriptions. - Supplier Challenges:
Suppliers often had to sift through lengthy descriptions to understand the scope of work, only to find that some projects didn’t align with their goals or capabilities. This led to mismatched quotes, wasted time, and unmet expectations.
To address these issues, we’ve introduced a Project Qualification section that adds clarity, detail, and context to each project.
The Project Qualification Section: What’s New?
The new Project Qualification section provides key insights into each buyer's project, helping suppliers quickly assess whether it aligns with their expertise and business objectives. Here's what’s included:
- Reason for the Project:
Clear details on why the buyer needs the part—whether it’s for cost comparison, urgency, a replacement, or a completely new part. - Order Urgency:
Information on whether there’s an immediate order to be placed. - Scope of Supply:
Clarification on whether the project is a one-off order or part of a long-term supply need, helping suppliers gauge future opportunities. - Contract Type:
Is it an ongoing order or a one-time purchase? Suppliers can prioritize accordingly. - Buyer Expectations:
Insights into what the buyer values most in a supplier, such as competitive pricing, excellent communication, local sourcing, or fast turnaround. - Preferred Contact Method:
Buyers can specify how they want to be contacted—phone, email, or messaging system. If phone contact is not preferred, we’ll find out why, to ensure efficient communication. - Buyer History with Qimtek:
Suppliers can view a buyer’s history, including how many projects they’ve placed and awarded, providing valuable context about their reliability and preferences.
How This Benefits Suppliers and Buyers
- For Suppliers:
The enhanced transparency means suppliers can better manage their time and resources by focusing on projects that align with their goals. They can avoid quoting for jobs that don’t suit their capabilities or preferences while gaining a clearer understanding of buyer expectations. - For Buyers:
Buyers receive fewer irrelevant quotes from suppliers and can connect more effectively with those who are genuinely interested in their projects. This streamlined approach reduces communication friction and helps build stronger, more reliable relationships.
Catering to Different Buyer Needs
With these updates, we’ve acknowledged that not all buyers are looking for the same thing. For example:
- Cost Comparisons:
Some buyers use Qimtek to compare prices against their existing suppliers, often prioritizing cost over other factors. - One-Off Solutions:
Others come to solve a specific problem with a single part or project, with no ongoing work expected. - Supply Chain Partners:
Many buyers seek long-term suppliers for consistent manufacturing support across multiple projects.
By clarifying these distinctions upfront, our new system ensures that suppliers only engage with buyers whose needs align with their offerings, saving time and avoiding unnecessary frustration for both parties.
Greater Transparency, Better Connections
At Qimtek, our mission is to support and grow the UK manufacturing and engineering sectors by fostering meaningful connections between buyers and suppliers. These updates to our members area are designed to enhance transparency, improve communication, and create better opportunities for everyone involved.
We’re confident that this new system will help suppliers find the right work while giving buyers a more efficient way to connect with the best partners for their needs.
