Blackhill Engineering has won its first contract for the manufacture of equipment to support nuclear decommissioning work at Magnox's Winfrith site in Dorset.

The contract marks a further breakthrough into the nuclear sector for Exeter-based heavy engineering company Blackhill, part of SC Group, the Devon-headquartered engineering services business, which is actively targeting the nuclear and energy sectors as part of its long-term growth and diversification strategy.

Nick Ames, chief executive of SC Group, said: “Magnox is a prestigious new customer for Blackhill which is ideally placed in terms of its heavy engineering capacity and local geography to provide the South West's fabrication services required by the nuclear sector.”

Magnox, owned by Cavendish Fluor Partnership, holds a Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) contract to safely manage 12 nuclear sites and one hydroelectric plant in the UK.

Blackhill specialises in machining large fabrications and complex assemblies, and boasts a 60-tonne lifting capability in the South West of England.
