Northants Precision, a rapidly growing specialist in precision motorsport subcontract machining, continues to make significant strides in 2025.
The company’s ongoing investments in advanced machinery and a new, modern facility have positioned it as a leading SME within the UK motorsport supply chain.
Under the guidance of owner and Managing Director Daniel Green, Northants Precision has expanded both its capabilities and workforce, recently relocating to a state-of-the-art 3,500 sq. ft. manufacturing base in Kislingbury, Northampton. Central to this growth is the acquisition of two new DN Solutions Lynx 2100 lathes from Mills CNC, which joined four other Lynx lathes already in operation.
“Delivering hundreds or thousands of identical, high-precision, performance-critical components—often from challenging materials and to rigorous quality criteria—is standard practice for us,” He explained. “This level of consistency demands not only reliable, high-performance machinery but also proven CAD/CAM systems, effective machining techniques, and thorough inspection processes.”
The new lathes, an 8” chuck Lynx 2100LMB with driven tooling and a 6” chuck 2-axis Lynx 2100A, were installed in January and June 2025. Their arrival has enabled Northants Precision to take on even more demanding contracts, including direct work with Formula One teams and customers in the World Endurance and World Rally Championships. “The addition of these machines has markedly increased our internal capabilities and competitiveness, allowing us to undertake further work,” said Mr Green.
Parts produced are small, precise, and often cylindrical, with tolerances as tight as +/- 5 microns and demanding surface finishes. These are machined from cutting-edge materials like heat-treated stainless steels, titanium, and specialist aluminium grades—meeting the stringent standards of high-performance automotive and motorsport engineering.
Efficiency is also a hallmark of the company’s operations. A typical example is the production of engine housing washers from 10mm titanium bar, machined in batches of 600 units using a cellular manufacturing layout. “We pursue operational excellence throughout every stage—from in-house CAD/CAM, machining, and inspection through to outsourced processes such as heat treatment, thread rolling, EDM, and surface finishing,” Green affirms.
Further investments include a sliding head lathe for high-volume work, a 3-axis machining centre, and a 3D printer for fixture production. Strategic use of production control software and real-time tool vending has improved productivity and reduced waste.
