From one-off prototypes to large-scale petrochemical fabrications, the variety of work at Grenville Engineering (Subcon Stand E 61) reflects the changing demands placed on today’s subcontract manufacturers.
Based in Stoke-on-Trent and delivering across the UK, the ISO 9001-accredited business has spent more than 40 years developing its capabilities in complete fabrication and collaborative manufacturing support.
Operating from a 58,000 sq ft facility, Grenville Engineering provides a full design-to-manufacture service, including an in-house 3D CAD team, and covers CNC flatbed and tube laser cutting, CNC metal folding, CNC punching, welding, machining, fabrication, and complex assemblies. The company works across sectors including yellow goods, construction, petrochemical, renewables, medical, architectural and wider industrial manufacturing.
Recent investment has focused on strengthening both production capacity and process control. The installation of a new TRUMPF 12kW fibre laser has increased cutting speeds and expanded material capabilities, including mild steel up to 30mm thick, stainless steel up to 40mm thick, and aluminium up to 30mm thick. For clients, these upgrades mean significantly faster turnaround times, higher precision in complex projects, and the ability to specify a broader range of materials and thicknesses. Alongside productivity gains, the investment supports improved cutting consistency and efficiency across both repeat production and bespoke fabrication work, ensuring customers receive high-quality results delivered to tighter deadlines.
The company’s machining department has also seen significant development over the last two years, transitioning from predominantly manual equipment into a modern CNC machining environment through investment in two Hurco VMCs and an XYZ CNC lathe. The additional machining capability allows greater flexibility for both fabricated and machined components, particularly where tighter tolerances and repeatability are required.
Welding remains a core part of the business, with 22 welding stations operated by experienced ASME IX-qualified welders, producing everything from small fabricated parts to large, complex assemblies.
“Experience across the workforce is one of the biggest strengths within the business,” said Stuart Rawlinson, Sales Director at Grenville Engineering. “A lot of people join Grenville and build long-term careers here, developing specialist knowledge over many years. Apprenticeships are still an important part of that, too. I started here myself as an apprentice over 30 years ago.”
