Two French additive manufacturing specialists have come together to create a leading European supplier capable of supporting manufacturers from prototype to large-scale production.

The acquisition of Sculpteo by 3D Prod brings together two complementary areas of expertise in industrial 3D printing and returns Sculpteo to French ownership following its acquisition by BASF in 2019.

The acquisition comes amid a global 3D printing market valued at $24 billion in 2025, which is expected to double within five years.

3D Prod, an industrial 3D printing company backed by Platex (a specialist in plastic injection moulding), brings industrial production capacity, finishing expertise, a broad range of technologies, and strong European roots.

Sculpteo contributes its proven digital platform, technical design expertise, and ability to serve an international customer base. This highly complementary combination will enable the group to serve customers more effectively, from start-ups to large corporations, across a broad range of additive manufacturing technologies, including one of the world’s largest fleets of HP MJF 3D printers. Together, they cover the entire value chain: rapid prototyping, one-off manufacturing, and industrial-scale production.

The combined company employs 100 people and generates €17 million in revenue, with the aim of reaching €20 million by 2027.

The business produces more than 1,250,000 parts a year and serves more than 7,000 corporate customers, ranging from SMEs to major international groups. Sectors served include automotive, aerospace, healthcare, design, and industry.

With two production sites in the Vosges and Villejuif in the Île-de-France region, the company has a global presence across 62 countries.

It also operates one of the largest HP 3D printer fleets in the world, reinforcing its position as a major player in advanced manufacturing.

Alexandre d’Orsetti, CEO of Sculpteo, said: “Combining the offerings of both companies will give customers access to a broader portfolio of materials and services, delivering an even more comprehensive industrial 3D printing solution.”

The group’s strategy is structured in two distinct phases. Initially, the objective is to optimise commercial synergies and production by leveraging the complementary strengths of the two entities, from prototyping capabilities to the launch of industrial series. The group, which generates €17 million in revenue, is targeting €20 million by 2027 while continuing its expansion in Europe and North America.

From 2027, a second phase of investment and production ramp-up will begin, including equipment upgrades in the Vosges and Île-de-France regions, the recruitment of new talent, and the acceleration of series production, in line with anticipated market growth of more than 10% per year.

Quentin Kiener, President of 3D Prod, said: “With this merger, we are giving ourselves the means to support the expansion of this sector by offering a complete range of services, from prototypes to large-scale production, to support French, European, and US manufacturers at every stage of their development.”
