Specialist aerospace subcontractor the ASG Group has made significant investments in CNC machining and metrology at ASG Arrowsmith in Coventry
The company says the investment will revolutionise its machining capabilities and secure major machining contracts for a global aero-engine manufacturer.
The newly installed automated manufacturing cell is built around a Doosan Lynx 2100SY multitasking turning centre will allow rapid, high-precision machining of intricate and complex turned and milled aerospace parts. It complements ASG Arrowsmith’s DVF 5000 simultaneous 5-axis machining centre that was installed in 2022.
Jason Aldridge, Managing Director of ASG Arrowsmith, said: "Lynx lathes are really well respected and are both flexible and reliable. With their powerful, high-torque spindles, 12-station turrets, and impressive rapid rates, they deliver the high part accuracies and fast processing speeds required in the aerospace sector."
Installed in July this year, the cell will support growth in existing aeroengine production parts, plus the introduction and ramp up of new NPI components. ASG Arrowsmith has won work on civil military and business aviation components ranging from medium complexity engine components to higher volume C-class parts.
The company has also invested in a Keyence IM Series metrology arm. This automated optical comparator can take up to 99 dimensional measurements in under 3 seconds. It is integrated into ASG Arrowsmith’s workflow to not only carry out measurement processes but also to capture the data and create inspection reports.
