GTMA and Additive Manufacturing UK will be jointly hosting Manufacturing Solutions UK event at RAF Museum Midlands, Cosford, on 14 September 2023. This year the event is incorporating the metrology, testing and inspection show Make Measurement Matter, as well as additive and other manufacturing technologies.
The event has been held in various locations across the UK for a number of years, but this will be the first time back since the pandemic. RAF Cosford museum will provide a backdrop to the exhibition area, with exhibitors and visitors surrounded by iconic aircraft and the complete story of the RAF.
This event provides an opportunity to learn more about the very latest tooling, precision machining and mould and die support available from British precision engineering companies, as well as key measurement and inspection technologies and service providers.
Visitors can hear two keynote speakers at the event from Rolls-Royce. The first is Dr Phil Bamforth, CEng, IMechE, Global Lead – Manufacturing Product Verification & Measurement; he leads the global manufacturing measurement community at Rolls-Royce, ensuring the processes, skills and technologies are robust and competitive across the Rolls-Royce group.
With a Mechanical Engineering degree and PhD from Loughborough University, specialising in machine vision and laser materials processing, during his time at Rolls-Royce he has held a variety of roles in Manufacturing Engineering and Design. These include leading metrology technology developments, working with international standards groups, introducing APQP/PPAP and Model Based Definition. Currently, his main focus is ensuring measurement technology and skills are future proof to enable manufacturing measurement to add value right across the product lifecycle.
The second speaker is Joseph Green, Measurement Team Lead for Defence Manufacturing in Bristol. He has been with Rolls-Royce for over 17 years, starting as a craft apprentice in 2005. His work has been focused around metrology, where he has a wide variety of skills and experience ranging from his first principles inspection to CMM/CMS Programming in multiple software languages.
Joseph’s current role means he is responsible for developing and maintaining capable measurement systems to enable the delivery of complex military components. He uses his metrology passion and experience to meet various measurement challenges and fulfil business needs. One of his keen interests is to help define and work towards a standardised measurement strategy for Rolls-Royce Defence.
Joining them on the rostrum will be Matt Bulley, Managing Director at Mauriteft Consulting. Having worked in Defence, Automotive and Industrial Engineering operations for over 25 years he recently concluded 15 years with Caterpillar as the Managing Director for Caterpillar Defence, Shrewsbury. He now uses his experience and network to identify suitable opportunities to simplify how defence procurement works to allow clients to win a higher percentage of contracts. Explaining the buying cycle, major programmes, bid and award and contracting processes, alongside the new equipment, upgrade and in-service support opportunities.
