Spring, wire form and assembly specialist William Hughes has introduced metrology services for high precision manufacturing following its acquisition of JK Metrology

JK Metrology & Quality Services of Liskeard, Cornwall is a well-established metrology and quality consultancy for ISO 17027, ISO 9000 etc. and offers a UKAS calibration service to ISO 17025.

“This acquisition will be of particular interest to our many customers involved in the manufacture of high specification, high precision components, where accurate measurement is key to the success of their business,” said Max Hughes, Managing Director at William Hughes. “By investing resources and people into this established and well-respected business, we will be able to offer a range of benefits for customers – including a reduced turnaround time.”

With a worldwide portfolio of customers, JK Metrology is one of only 3 UK laboratories offering UKAS Calibration of Gauge Blocks by Interferometry (Class A). ‘By comparison’ calibration is also offered and in the future William Hughes plans to offer a rapid turnaround service. Interferometry is the highest level of accuracy for length measurement and JK Metrology can also measure items up to 1 metre long at 20°C ± 0.05ºC.  The scope of services includes tungsten carbide, steel and ceramic, long slip gauges, length bars, long series gauge blocks, surface tables (including refurbishment), gauge block and length bar accessories, optical flats and parallels.

The company is also a supplier of metrology equipment, from micrometers and verniers, gauge blocks and angle gauges, to coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and a wide range of other metrology equipment. JK Metrology continues to supply and service the metrology equipment previously manufactured by Select Gauges Ltd following its closure.

Mr Hughes continued, “We are delighted to announce that John Kelly, a Director of JK Metrology for many years, following a long career in the world of gauge calibration, will transfer to William Hughes, where his range of contacts, depth of experience and wealth of knowledge will be a valuable asset in the integration of the business into the William Hughes group.”

The introduction of specialist metrology services will sit comfortably alongside the ultrasonic cleaning services introduced by William Hughes with its acquisition of A.C.Services (South West) Ltd in 2015, serving such industry sectors as aerospace, defence, nuclear, oil and gas, medical and electronics.
