Automotive learning technology providers Redware Limited has launched a new learning portal for the automotive industry in response to calls for GDPR training.

The new learning portal, The Automotive Academy, is designed to help individual learners and organisations across the automotive industry learn and develop with a range of eLearning courses handpicked for their relevance to the industry.

The Academy is now in phase one of its public opening, with a select number of courses on GDPR compliance available following industry concerns about staff preparedness for the new Data Protection regulation which comes into force on 25 May 2018.

Organisations who cannot prove they are compliant with the GDPR after 25 May risk a fine of up to £17 million or 4 per cent of annual turnover, whichever is highest.

A key tenet of the legislation is that organisations must train all members of staff who handle personal data, and with the risk of fines and reputational damage it is in organisations’ interests to do so.

The Automotive Academy has assessed online GDPR training from a wide range of learning providers and collated the most relevant for the industry, ranging from in-depth training for Data Protection Officers to 20-minute courses designed for all staff.

Courses can be bought and distributed across organisations from one central account with The Automotive Academy, or can be accessed on an individual basis, all delivered via a secure online portal with the ability to view refresher training after the course is completed.

The Academy will undergo two more development phases before its official launch at Automechanika Birmingham in June 2018.

Future developments will include the ability to benchmark individual and organisational skills against national standards, ensuring that learners are only paying for the training they need and can demonstrate the areas where they already excel.

The Automotive Academy’s mission is to ensure everybody within the automotive industry has access to affordable training that is relevant for them. The Academy are therefore offering a discount on all GDPR training until 25 May to help every automotive organisation ensure they are compliant.

Mark Lloyd, Head of Product Management at Redware said:

“The GDPR is one of the largest training challenges the automotive industry has faced in many years, and non-compliance carries a significant risk. As it’s our mission to help the automotive industry meet their training challenges faster and more efficiently than ever, we felt it was essential to launch phase one of The Automotive Academy as soon as possible.

“We hope that this training helps organisations take advantage of the opportunities that GDPR can offer, and that it gives all learners within the industry the knowledge and confidence to act within the legislation, protecting themselves and their employers.”
