Engineering and fabrication company, WEC Group Ltd, has successfully achieved EN 15085-2 accreditation for welding on rail vehicles as part of the company’s long term commitment to the UK and European rail sector.

The accreditation was obtained following an audit by The Welding Institute (TWI) and will enable the Group to tender for and accept more work for the rail industry.

Wayne Wild, WEC Group commercial director, said: “This particular accreditation was singled out last year as a strategic requirement, to allow for the manufacture of safety critical items to rolling stock OEM’s and their supply chain.”

“It was also recently achieved by our Coventry-based company, HTA Group, which specialise in the manufacture components for rail interiors, HVAC, chassis components and bracketry to name but a few.”

This follows a range of other essential quality accreditations recently achieved by the Group in order to meet the increasingly demanding industry requirements, including approval as an aluminium welding supplier to Bombardier Transportation.

WEC Group specialises in the manufacture of electrical enclosures, body end cubicles, underframes and cable trays and is also a leading force in providing design, fabrication and installation of signal structures, gantries and electrification projects (OLE & main steel).

With RISQS approval, WEC Group also manufacture and supply CCTV mounting products as well as providing a range of rail repair services.

The privately owned WEC Group is now one of the largest engineering and fabrication companies in the UK with manufacturing sites in Lancashire, Merseyside, Yorkshire and the West Midlands.
