Coventry-based lightweight castings business Sarginsons Industries has invested £125,000 in technology to enhance its process control and measurement processes.
The company has purchased a Faro Quantum 3D scanner that will improve its metrology capabilities as it uses the latest laser technology to analyse tooling and components made by Sarginsons to exactly match its customers’ CAD data.
Four engineers are now being trained to use the PolyWorks Software, which is also developed in Coventry, that supports the scanner.
Sarginsons was assisted in the purchase of the scanning equipment by an ERDF grant through Coventry City Council.
The firm has also bought a GNR Lab 300 machine that will be used to measure the chemical composition of the aluminium in its products and, on top of that, the company has invested in barcode technology in order to fulfil a major order with Jaguar Land Rover that required the additional traceability on the products.
There has also been an improvement in the company’s tooling maintenance programme through new shot blast technology which has both financial and environmental benefits.
Anthony Evans, managing director of Sarginsons, said the company continued to drive forward with its growth.
He said: “We understand that to work for clients such as Jaguar Land Rover and other major manufacturers, we must continue to invest in everything we do and that’s why we have spent another six figures on new technology.
“The Faro scanner allows us to check our processes at greater detail and, because of its portability, we can do that at our HQ or we can take it out to the client to carry out checks with them.
“We are very grateful for the support from Coventry City Council in the purchase of technology and they have been very supportive of our growth.
“The new spectro analyser means we can go into very great detail on the chemical composition of our products and, again, it means we enhance further the lightweighting options for the components we produce here.
“It’s vital that we continue to invest as we look to grow even further.”
The investment comes on the back of Sarginsons achieving its IATF 16949:2016 accreditation and also a successful recruitment drive which saw it attract six new staff from the local area.
