UK Steel has announced that Cotswold Steel Stockholders Ltd is the first steel stockholder to sign up for the UK Steel Charter.

The Charter aims to maximise opportunities for the UK economy and UK steel producers by encouraging and promoting measures that can be taken in relation to the procurement of steel, complementing the requirements listed in the Government’s recently revised public procurement notice for steel.

Steel stockholders play an important part of the supply chain, providing products from groundwork steel to major structural sections.

Cotswold Steel is a leading provider of fabricated structural steelwork in the South West. With over 40 years’ of experience in the industry it has established themselves as a trusted partner for both independent builders and large, well-known house building companies. Its knowledge and experience in fabricated steelwork extends to all aspects of the construction process, including reinforcement steels for groundwork and the supply of steel to be manufactured into products.

UK Steel Charter signatories currently include over 30 leaders in major British infrastructure projects, from the Scottish and Welsh governments to Sizewell C.

Gareth Stace, Director General of UK Steel, secretariat of the UK Steel Charter said: “It is great news that a steel stockholder is committing to using UK-made steel to supply major construction and infrastructure projects. Cotswold Steel is leading the field and stepping up to support the UK steel industry as suppliers. We look forward to welcoming even more signatories.”

Tom Hall-Wilson, Director of Cotswold Steel, said: “When we found out about the UK Steel Charter and what it stood for, we found ourselves as a company aligned with everything it was trying to achieve. If we are able to support this movement and raise awareness moving forward, whilst promoting the UK steel industry, then the industry in this country can only benefit as a consequence.”

The UK Steel Charter provides organisations with a range of simple, practical steps they can take to increase the use of UK-made steel. It guides organisations on how to open up their procurement approach and develop supply opportunities for UK steel producers. It also showcases how to help manufacturing supply chains to use UK-made steel and how this increases national and local benefits for jobs, the economy and communities.
