A new group has been created to provide SME representation into the Rail Industry Supply Goup, the Government supported body that aims to strengthen the capability and competitiveness of the UK rail supply chain to grow business at home and abroad.

The aim of the RSG SME Council is to promote and optimise the contribution by SME’s to the UK Rail Industry.

The group is made up of SME members who supply (or want to supply) into the rail sector and includes representatives from across all functions supporting rail and its requirements.

Numill Tooling Solutions, Sheffield, Managing Director Anne Wilson MBE (pictured) joined the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Rail Supply Group SME Council last week hosted at Resonate in Derby.

Chaired by Simon Higgen, RSG Council SME Lead,  the meeting received an informative update from Anna DelVecchio on the current challenges of  Rail Supply Group and then focussed on how best to assist her in reflecting the contribution SME’s can make and challenges they may face in attempting to engage with some aspects of the rail sector.

The members agreed four clear objectives. These included: providing support, advice and counsel to the RSG Council SME Lead; enabling greater engagement with SMEs across the rail sector; cultivating the SME contribution to developing the UK as a global rail leader; and reflecting and representing equally the views of the SME community with policy makers, sector leaders and Tier 1 contractors.

The group, made up of volunteers passionate about the rail sector, have agreed to meet quarterly  throughout the year but with an imminent workshop to be hosted by Anna DelVecchio of AMEY in London to further explore the members views and invaluable contribution of SME’s to the rail industry.

Anne Wilson commented: “This is an excellent and invaluable opportunity to work with and help other SME’s like Numill Tooling Solutions to have a voice and influence in to the rail sector.  I look forward to working with my RSG SME Council colleagues for the betterment of the SME contribution to rail.
