The introduction of advanced measurement technology has dramatically boosted inspection and production times at turned part and CNC milled component specialist APT Leicester.

Turned part and CNC milled component specialist APT Leicester says that quality control is paramount to the way in which it operates. All aspects of manufacturing and production are controlled and monitored to comply with the exacting high standards of its AS 9100 and ISO 9001 accreditations.

Since the introduction of a Keyence IM-7030T measuring system, inspection and production times have improved dramatically and it can offer customers detailed reports and Statistical Process Control (SPC) data – all of which adds up to a more efficient service.

The Keyence IM-7030T can measure multiple parts in seconds, enabling the APT team to spend more time on the production process itself. This ensures that customers are consistently and rapidly provided with high quality products. Improved inspection and production times provide APT’s staff with strict rules to adhere to, thus avoiding any subjective elements which may hinder the overall process.

Alongside its new measuring system, 24/7 lights-out automated machining ensures that customers’ orders are fulfilled and produced to exact specifications. APT says it is dedicated to ensuring rapid delivery times at highly competitive prices, while providing customers with complete transparency and full traceability.

APT Leicester’s real time live data capture system syncs with the barcode on each production run job sheet, constantly auditing the efficiency of the CNC machines. In turn, this significantly reduces the time spent changing tools and dealing with occasional breakdowns of machinery, cutting production times even further.

APT is equipped to take blanket orders over a 12-month interval, enabling it to offer customers the flexibility of calling off components as and when required.

The company says its ethos has always been to invest in the most sophisticated, modern equipment, software and machinery available. It says, the support that APT receive from both production and technical managers, together with the specialist knowledge of its fully qualified and trained team, ensures the components are of outstanding quality every time.

Nick Baller, Managing Director at APT Leicester, says: “All components produced at APT are made to the AS9100 standard whether they are aerospace or not, thus ensuring full traceability back to the material source. We set our standards very high at APT. First, we make the part correct to drawing, then we make it perfect and then we make it an APT part!”
