Virtual Reality set to transform customer experience

According to new research from Oracle, a growing number of manufacturing and engineering firms are looking to take virtual reality to the next level by incorporating the technology into the experiences delivered to customers.

While these technologies have existed in the manufacturing process for many years, only now is research suggesting that VR could be used for a much broader purpose. In a study carried out with 800 senior executives from manufacturing and engineering companies, 84% were planning to incorporate VR into their customer experience by 2020, while 89% will employ automation technologies to ease the process.

EEF seeks to bust engineering myths

Are manufacturing and engineering just for boys? Is the profession low paid? These are just some of the myths that manufacturers’ organisation, EEF, is looking to bust in a new list published last week.

In an aim to help young people understand that the industry has much to offer, the list explores why anyone can go on to thrive in a STEM-based career. Senior employment and skills policy adviser, Verity O’Keefe, commented: “It’s vital we get this message out there so that more young people feel inspired to seize the opportunity to start a great career.”

UK manufacturers are positive about 2017 business plans despite risks, EEF says

Despite concerns over the UK’s place in the world following the Brexit vote and the continuing weakness in sterling, over half of respondents in EEF’s Executive Survey said they will be increasing investment in technology and innovation. As well as this, 44% of manufacturers said they would increase their marketing efforts and brand promotions in 2017.

Commenting on the survey findings, Terry Scuoler, CEO of EEF said: “Global political upheaval means that 2017 looks set to be another bumpy ride. A smooth journey is far from guaranteed, but firms are strongly attuned to the challenges and remain fully focused and determined to deliver their long-term plans for growth.”
