Transitioning to updated AS9100

Ford begins large-scale 3D printing trial

US automotive manufacturer Ford Motor Company this week announced plans to begin testing the production of large-scale parts using 3D-printing. To do this, Ford is partnering with Stratasys, one of the US’s largest 3D printing manufacturers. Oil and gas still an attractive draw – for now, warns skills body

More than 500 students from Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Great Yarmouth, Waveney and Norwich were asked to contribute to the Youth Perception of a Career in the Oil & Gas Industry report, which was conducted by oil and gas industry skills organisation OPITO throughout 2016. The report shows that 81% of respondents are interested in pursuing a career in the sector, with the opportunity to work around the world (24%), the development and use of cutting edge science and technology (20%); and salary (19%) given as the top three reasons among young people aged between 14 and 21. Toyota announces new £multi-million UK investment

Toyota Motor Europe has announced today that it will be investing a further £240m in its Derbyshire site to improve plant competitiveness and promote UK supply chain efficiencies.The investment programme also includes (subject to due diligence) up to £21.3m support from the UK government for training, research and development, and further enhancements of the plant’s environmental performance.

Rise in number of professionally registered women engineers and technicians

The Engineering Council’s Annual Registration Statistics Report shows that 9,937 engineers and technicians were added to the national Register in 2016, an increase of more than 6% compared to the previous year*. The report also reveals that the number of women who became professionally registered last year increased by over 19% compared to 2015, with women representing almost 11% (1,072) of all new registrations in 2016.
