Jaguar Land Rover announces £100m investment in Castle Bromwich plant
Investment keeps flowing for the UK’s largest automotive manufacturer as they announce plans to invest £100m to support the production of the Jaguar XE.
After being slated for closure back in 2008, the Castle Bromwich plant has since gone from strength-to-strength, with the arrival of the XE continuing the renaissance of the site which employs around 3,000 people. Over £500m has been spent on the plant during the past two years, with operations director, Nicolas Guibert, saying: “This plant is undergoing its most significant transformation in decades, with major infrastructure projects either complete or under way.”

£45m to create 3,000 skilled engineering jobs
Whitley, near Coventry, is set to become home to nearly 3,000 highly-skilled engineering and manufacturing employees, following the expansion of an automotive business zone thanks to government funding.
The Whitley South Infrastructure Project site is being developed from £35m in funding from the government and a further £10m from local contributions. It will open new opportunities for local manufacturers and businesses, highlighting the UK’s growing world-class automotive sector. Business and Energy Secretary Greg Clark commented: “It shows how private and public sector can work together to make a difference to the economy.”

Record breaker: trim-and-drill tool declared world’s largest solid 3D printed structure
Developed by researchers at the US Department of Energy, a new 3D printed trim-and-drill toos has been declared the largest in the world by Guinness World Records.
The 17.5’ long, 5.5’ wide and 1.5’ tall structure is set to be trialled at Boeing for the 777X passenger jet. Boeing’s director of structures and materials, Leo Christodoulou, said: “Additively manufactured tools, such as the 777X wing trim tool, will save energy, time, labour and production cost and are part of our overall strategy to apply 3D printing technology in key production areas.”
