EEF publishes report on fourth industrial revolution

Designed to prepare manufacturers on the practicalities of the fourth industrial revolution, the report uses real-life manufacturing case studies to envisage how advanced technologies and techniques can be applied.

Research prior to the report showed that just 42% of manufacturers have got to grips with the paradigm shift, while 74% believe it will fundamentally change customers’ expectations. EEF are aiming to get the UK’s manufacturers prepared for the future by providing practical tips and support to help them adapt to the changes.

It’s impossible to deny that optimism amongst firms has taken a hit after the fall in the value of the pound and the growing prices of imported goods. These factors have meant that it is much more difficult for manufacturers to offer competitive prices, but that’s not to say that demand hasn’t increased. In fact, in Q3, PMI rose by the largest monthly level since figures began recording 25 years ago.
