SPACE: supporting the manufacturing supply chain

How Expromet meets demand in the commercial space sector.

The extensive range of manufacturing capabilities offered by Expromet Technologies Group makes it a one-stop-shop for a wide range of sectors, and a good fit for the space industry.

Fresh from Space-Comm Expo, a key event in the UK space industry calendar, Rob Williams (Group Business Development Manager) confirms Expromet’s strong fit with the sector:

“The UK accounts for 6.5% of the global space market and aims to grow this to 10% by 2030. Expromet Group companies offer the perfect combination of expertise and efficiency to play a role in the manufacturing supply chain for commercial space enterprises.”

THE INCREASING DEMAND FOR QUALITY COMPONENTS IN SPACE

A collaboration of national space agencies has drawn up a Global Exploration Roadmap which plans to “expand human presence into the solar system, with the surface of Mars as a common driving goal”. Commercial space flight companies work as contractors for these national space agencies, with aerospace industry heavyweights sourcing components and systems from trusted partners across the world.

Further demand for high quality precision components comes from the private sector: Elon Musk (SpaceX), Jeff Bezos (Blue Origin) and Richard Branson (Virgin Galactic) are competing to make space travel cheaper and safer to attract paying customers. High quality, strong and light precision components play a key role in reaching this goal.

Manufacturing demand in the space sector is not limited to putting humans into space. In 2019, 95% of the estimated $366 billion in revenue earned in the space sector was from the space-for-earth economy: that is, goods or services produced in space for use on earth, including telecommunications and internet infrastructure, earth observation capabilities, national security satellites, and more. This economy is booming, and projections for its future are optimistic.

SPACE-COMM EXPO

Space-Comm covers the whole of the space supply chain and provides the opportunity to source new products, services and suppliers with specialist expertise. Drawing on his experience at the show, Rob is confident that Expromet group companies Haworth Castings, Investacast, Metaltech Precision and NC Precision are well placed to supply a wide range of products to the space industry.

"Expromet is a leading group of advanced precision casting and machining businesses, delivering world-class engineering solutions for performance-critical applications," says Rob. “Top tier manufacturers in the space sector require suppliers that can design and manufacture components quickly, efficiently and to the highest quality, safety and environmental standards. This is what we do.”
