Metalcraft contract extension with Sellafield

Avingtrans plc's subsidiary Stainless Metalcraft (Chatteris) Ltd, part of the group's energy and medical division, has secured an additional £11m contract option with Sellafield.

The contract extension for an additional quantity of containers builds on Metalcraft's May 2015 contract for the supply of waste containers over 10 years, worth up to £47m. From the initial contract award in 2015, Metalcraft has cleared the prototype development phase of the contract and established a dedicated manufacturing facility, which is now engaged in pre-production trials.

Barnsley-based laser cutting specialist Cutting Technologies has teamed up with local sculptor Michael Johnson to create a decorative screen for Herringthorpe Junior School, located in Rotherham.

Herringthorpe Junior School commissioned Mr Johnson to create the Wind in the Willows-themed screen to cover the junior school's entrance as part of a literacy trail project.

Marches Centre of Manufacturing & Technology aims to support 2020 learners by 2020

68 apprenticeship places are up for grabs later this month when Shropshire's newest training hub holds a 'showcase' event.

Young people, parents and businesses are being encouraged to attend the event, which will mark 60 days before the official opening of the £3m Marches Centre of Manufacturing & Technology (MCMT), a hub that aims to support 2020 learners by 2020.

Pentaxia is actively encouraging young people to take up a career in engineering

To mark International Women in Engineering Day, Derby-based composites manufacturer Pentaxia is launching a social media campaign, to help encourage girls and women pursue careers in engineering.

Project engineer Grace Atkinson, design engineer Kenzie Myers and composite laminator Maria Parkes have pioneered the #GoForIt campaign and will be showcase their career highlights and share advice in blogs and on Twitter throughout the day.
